UPGRADE YOUR VIDEO DRIVERS!

No matter what version of Windows you are using it is recommended that you make sure you are using the latest drivers for your video card. If you have any problems (slow, jerky, crashing, freezing) they can almost always be fixed by simply replacing your outdated drivers.

The latest drivers for your card are available from the manufacturers website. They are always working on upgrading the drivers, so make sure you upgrade them!

Some common manufacturers websites are:
ATI
Matrox
nVidia
PowerVR

SETTINGS

To get to the settings screen go to Display options in Control Panel and
in the Screen Saver section click on Settings.

This will bring up the UC3D settings screen where you can set the countdown, and other settings for to http://www.UselessCreations.com/uc3d for more info. You can also get to this screen saver's specific settings.

The following configuration options are available. (It is recommended that you play with the options to find what runs best on your PC and what you think looks best):

Display Pictures: If you want Harry to just wave his wand around without displaying any pictures, you can turn this off.
Folder Containing Pictures To Display: Click this button to set which folder has the pictures you want to be displayed. See above for more info on displaying your own pictures (but its pretty simple).
Music: You can select from the dropdown box if you don't want music to play, if you want it to play once, or if you want it to play over and over.
Sparkles Deflect Off Pictures: With this turned on the sparkles that shoot from Harry's wand will bounce off the pictures they project, instead of disappearing. They then make nifty, colourful, 3D patterns.
Flickering Lighting Effects: The floating candles around the room illuminate it with a flickering light, if you don't want to have the flickering lights going (some people have problems with it), you can turn this off.
Lighting Level: If the flickering lights is turned on you can set the brightness of the candlelight here. If it's dimmer, the coloured light from his wand will be more obvious.
Restore Default Settings: Click this to set all the options back to their initial values.

USELESS RELEASE NOTES (v2.0)

With allt his fuss recently about the new Harry Potter book being released, I started to wonder when the next movie was coming out, and discovered it's only a few months away! So I thought it was time to do an update to the screen saver.

I found tho that I liked the screen saver as it was, so there wasn't much to change. But I decided that I'd at least put in all new pictures from the new Goblet of Fire movie.

But it seems I'm too early for that too! I couldn't really find more than about 5. So I decided instead that I'd rewrite bits of this thing so that you can display your own pictures! That way I don't have to worry about updating it again later and adding more pics. And if you want to display pics of your dog Rover eating your neighbour's cat at last years failed attempt at an interspecies blind date, then you can do that too! Display whatever pics you want.

I also changed his walk a little, gave him a shadow, and did a few other little tweaks. But I worked mainly on the option to display your own pics.

As always, just enjoy this free screensaver for what it is. FREE! Nice, huh? And if you spot any bugs, let me know!

Enjoy!

USELESS RELEASE NOTES (v1.0)

Altho this is not a basic screensaver, it's back to basics in idea. When I started doing these free screensavers I did it because so many official screensavers for movies or whatever are just boring slideshows, or boring loops of Flash animations that repeat after 10 seconds. So I decided to do an alternative kind of slideshow that's far more fun to watch, just to show what's possible with a little effort and imagination.

So anyway, it'd been a while since I'd done one like this, and when I decided to give in to popular demand and do a Harry Potter screensaver, I figured this was a nice little idea for it. I had a lot of ideas in the end involving Quiddich matches and flying broomstick stuff, but I didn't really have the time to spend on it. It's hard because altho I like Harry Potter, I'm not a huge fan. So it took a while to get inspired. I ended up re-watching the first 2 movies (altho I urge you all out there to go read the books instead), and this is what I ended up with.

My version of Harry is based on a picture I saw when I was looking for HP related stuff on the web. I think it was a book cover but I'm not sure now and I can't find it. So anyway, he's not photorealistic and doesn't look like the actor, but with my cartoonish character style none of them are ever going to look "real".

I couldn't work out why when I started modeling the background that I was sticking heaps of bookshelves around. For some reason when I thought of Harry Potter I thought of books. Being slow witted it took me ages to work out why...

Anyway, I think the result look cool. There's some nifty lighting and particle effects n stuff. And in general it's just nice to watch. It's all nice and colourful and eye catching and all that nonsense. I like it, I hope you do too. If I get a good response maybe I'll do one of my other ideas in the future. We'll see.

Before you complain about not liking it, or Harry not looking right, or Ron not being present or whatever you want to complain about, take a deep breath and remember that this is FREE and you're lucky it exists at all. You don't have to use it you know! Enjoy it for what it is! (Sorry, I get a lot of stupid complaints from people)

If you spot any bugs, let me know! And once again, go read a book. They're usually better than the movies based on them.

Enjoy!
