From here you can turn the level detail on and off and the lighting FX on and off. Turning them off should speed up the game but it also makes it look pretty bad. You may want to the turn the lighting FX off if flickering lights cause you problems.

From the settings screen you can also submit your high score to the official high score table on www.UselessCreations.com. Once you've reached a high score that you think it competitive connect to the Internet, come to the settings screen and click on the Submit Score button. The score will be uploaded to the website and you can see if you're the best in the world!!

WHY A PLAYABLE SCREEN SAVER AND NOT A STAND ALONE GAME?

A game has to be downloaded and run separately to play it. A playable screen saver pops up when you're idle and gives you something better to do!

I find that my screen saver turns on when I'm stuck staring at the screen trying to think of something. So now when this pops up I have a quick game to get my brain ticking again!

HOW TO PLAY!

The aim of the game is to avoid the rolling barrels and get to the top. Once at the top jump across to grab the swinging rope! By pulling the rope you'll raise the cage and release the person who's captured!

You score points for jumping barrels and a big bonus for successfully raising the cage. The quicker you get to the top and pull the rope the more points you'll get!

To control you're character use the arrow keys. Left and right to run left and right, up and down to climb stairs, and space bar to jump! To climb stairs walk to the bottom of them and face them, then press up and you'll be on the stairs. To climb down stairs to the same at the top of the stairs, make sure you're facing them and press down. Easy!

Remember, if you get a high score enter your name and submit the score to the website! Can you be the best in the world?

RELEASE NOTES

As a fan of the old Planet of the Apes movie I was really looking forward to the new version, and just had to do a screen saver for it!

Unfortunately, I couldn't think of anything! I couldn't think of an interesting way just to display pictures or anything. Nothing that was Ape related anyway.

So I racked my brains trying to think of something Apey to do. And all I could think of was the old Nintendo hand held game of "Donkey Kong"!

So I decided I'd make a screen saver that had a cool display of pictures from the new movie, aswell as a Planet of the Apes game inspired by Donkey Kong that you could play whenever the screen saver popped up!

And here it is! I never realised how much time it would take to make even a simple game like this! It's probably taken longer than anything I've ever done before. I started a month before the movie was released and now it's finished its a month AFTER the movie was released.

But it was worth it! I love the result, and I hope you do too!

If you've got an old version of Windows 95 and you get errors about missing DLLs you probably need this:

ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/opengl95.exe

If you use/like/hate/sniff/spot bugs in/thoroughly enjoy this screen saver drop me an email! I'd love to hear what you think!

Enjoy!
