MESSAGE TO BEER COMPANIES

I rarely meet a beer that I don't like, so I have the highest respect for beer companies of all shapes and sizes. If you'd like to have your beer included in the screensaver (and get a bunch of free advertising to boot!) then drop me a line! We'd love to include your beer in this screensaver! I usually just need a bottle so I can make a 3D model of it, then you're brew can be on the screen in all its glory!

If, on the other hand, your beer is included (which means I liked it enough to spend the time buying loads of it and making 3D models of the bottle) and you'd rather it wasn't included because you don't want free advertising, or for any other reason, then that's fine too! Simply drop me a line and I'll take it out ASAP. It'll make me sad, but I'll be happy to do it for you!

All the brands/designs are the property of their respective owners, I'm just trying to bring them to life in an artistic display for all beer lovers to enjoy and drool at.

If you want to go one step further and get a specific, stand alone screensaver in this style, featuring nothing but your own beer products, that's cool too. Contact me and I'm sure we can come to some sort of arrangement!

To get to the download screen, click on the "Download New Beer Bottles" tab on the screen saver Options screen. With the trial version, all you can do on this screen is check which bottles are available. With the registered version you can actually download them, all you need to do is follow the steps on screen. Closing the settings sheet while any downloads are in progress will cancel the current download, and of course, you need to be connected to the internet to be able to download new bottles.

After downloading a bottle, the screen saver needs to be restarted for the new bottle to be available.

The button at the bottom lets you set where the downloaded bottle files are kept on your machine. The screen saver will create a default directory for you when it runs, however you are welcome to change it. Remember though, if you change the directory the screen saver will not be able to find any fish in the previous directory, and you will need to give any users who are going to use the screen saver permission to at least read from the folder so they can use the data files, and they will need write permission if you want to allow them to download bottles aswell.

Because I've been asked a lot, here's a quick note: If you get an error saying "Download Failed - Error! Cannot Create File http://" it means that it can't save the data file, usually because you do NOT have full read/write access to the folder (as it says you need above). So you need to make sure you have access to that folder it's using, OR you can create a new folder somewhere you know you have full access to, such as under your home directory. Then click that button at the bottom of the settings and tell the screen saver where you new folder is. Then you should be fine.

DESCRIPTION (WHAT'S IT DO?)

Mmmm Beer! Drool like a mental patient as you gaze in wonder while 3D beer bottles floating around your screen in stunning 3D. They look almost good enough to have you licking your computer screen in frustration! To add to the mesmerizing experience, you can have an optional clock going, and a configurable countdown to Beer O'Clock, so you know to the second how long you have to wait til your work is done, and you can down a cold one. Want more 3D beer bottle designs? No worries, mate! There's heaps more free beer add-ons available to download and install from the website!

RELEASE NOTES

I like beer. It tastes good and sometimes makes the world seem like a better place than it actually is. When I go out, I always try to test a beer I haven't tasted before. The world is full of fantastic beers from mass producted masterpieces, to rather chewy microbrewery jobs. It's worth testing them all! In moderation, of course.

This screensaver is a celebration of all the beers of the world. Not that every beer in the world can be included, but with the add-on system, I do aim to release as many as possible as free add-ons for all registered users to enjoy.

This is a complete re-write of an old screensaver I did many years ago. I hope you like it! The bottles look better with the new shine, and I'm hoping it all works better in general. Hope you all like it!

And remember, we're not trying to promote alcoholism or anything. If you're going to drink, drink responsibly! Never drink and drive! Always carry a designated driver in your glove box! Don't operate heavy machinery while intoxicated! Try not to go out in the middle of the night in a drunken haze and make sweet, sweet love to your neighbour's bird bath because you thought it was giving you the eye!

VERSION HISTORY

v1.1 - 13th March, 2008 - Update for Leopard
Leopard (OS X 10.5) and some older versions will give the screensaver a black screen to capture when the screensaver password option is turned on. The screensaver now attempts to detect this and display your wallpaper image instead, so that you don't just get the black screen OS X is trying to display!
